Works · Lament

Made in the summer of 2008, out of an exploration of the Anglo/Scots borderline, one of the oldest borders in the world, an enquiry into the meanings that might be revealed at its heart and within its landscape. This piece took on the nature of a visual, philosophical, historical and yet deeply personal meditation.

The work takes the form of a single screen moving image installation, artist monograph and still images, created at various locations on the border. First exhibited at Casa Artelor, Timisoara, Romania March 2009, curated by Ileana Pintilie. Subsequently shown in Scotland at the Forest Gallery, Selkirk and at the SSA Dundee.

'Lament' was published by Nowhere Arts in February 2009, a 60 page artist monograph consisting of still images, a 6000 word prose text, with an introduction by the art critic and curator Ileana Pintilie Teleaga. It is available here.

The Borderline text was also published in Romanian, to accompany a solo exhibition of still and moving image works from this project, as part of the international Borderline conference held in Timisoara, March 2009.
